On Sunday, September 27, 2020, John F. Gibbemeyer Sr., loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 86.
John was born in Cincinnati in 1934 to Gus and Catherine (Bodenstein) Gibbemeyer who preceded him in death. John was also preceded in death by his siblings Robert, Walter and Annie. He is survived by his three children; Deborah (John) Stallo, John Jr. (Sherry) Gibbemeyer and Brian (Rachelle) Gibbemeyer; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Stallo, Allison Stallo, Lauren (Stallo) Polking, Drew Stallo; Elizabeth Gibbemeyer, Emily Gibbemeyer, and Erin (Gibbemeyer) Birsch; and six great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Cameron Polking; and, Tyler, Otto, Philip, and Cedric Stallo.
John had a passion for education and earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati while working a job and raising a family. He instilled that same quest for knowledge to his children and others. John enjoyed practicing engineering design for over 30 years and was a member of the Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). John also supported his alma mater through participation in the Alumni Association and by following the Bearcat football and basketball teams. He was also had an interest in politics and the performing arts; especially, opera. His favorite operas were Madama Butterfly and Carmen. In addition, he was known for his quick wit and bad Dad jokes!
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12th, 2020 at St. William Church at 4108 West Eighth Street at 9:30 a.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Cincinnati Chapter, at 644 Linn Street Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203 ( act.alz.org ).
